London and around

It has been one year since I moved to big old London, I still enjoy it and I still find it fascinating. I expect I will never grow tired of this amazing city. It does have some kind of home feel :)

"I know this goes without saying, but Stonehenge really was the most incredible accomplishment. It took five hundred men just to pull each sarsen, plus a hundred more to dash around positioning the rollers. Just think about it for a minute. Can you imagine trying to talk six hundred people into helping you drag a fifty-ton stone eighteen miles across the countryside and muscle it into an upright position, and then saying, 'Right, lads! Another twenty like that, plus some lintels and maybe a couple of dozen nice bluestones from Wales, and we can party!' Whoever was the person behind Stonehenge was one dickens of a motivator, I'll tell you that". - Bill Bryson

Exploring the Danube Delta

Just one , and probably the most fascinating, of the many amazing parts of my country : The Danube Delta. Amazing large wetland, formed over a period of more than 10000 years, has the third largest biodiversity in the world, with over 5500 flora and fauna species. I had the exciting opportunity to go on a boat trip exploring a little the channels of this superb delta. We left early in the morning and once we turned around the corner we found, 'having breakfast' : white pelicans together with the graceful swans and the 'cheeky' ospreys .... the swans floated slowly away when they heard our boat approaching, the ospreys flew away as well, only the pelicans stayed for awhile so we can admire them quietly. On a different channel we found beautiful water lilies, staying above the most amazing clear water. Then there were the frogs, the tortoises and the fastest dragon flies :) .... and so much more ... It was an amazing day for exploring :D

Free Range /End of Year Show Exhibition

It was a an amazing experience to be part of the Free Range Art & Design show. It was the very first time I exhibited and I felt slightly proud, as I can never be fully proud of myself. I choose 4 of the photos from my personal project PLANETTREE. The idea behind this small, fun project was to turn my camera away from the everyday, busy life and find a different kind of world, get closer to the things around me and explore. So I ended up photographing bark, interesting looking bark; also having this idea in the back of my mind to make my pictures look somehow like an abstract painting.
Reality has never been appealing to me, always trying to find weird ways to escape. Trying to find a world within a world, a planet on a planet. I like to believe this abstract, close up images of trees have some of the qualities of the work called 'earth from the air', where the scale of things is hard to judge.
All in all it's been an amazing year for me at City of Westminster College and it ended in a brilliant way. I learnt so much about photography in this college year and all I know is that I am prepared to follow photography to the next level :).
